Hi everyone. I just discovered this site this morning, and it looks awesome. I am in the market for a home studio setup. I have focused on getting an ADAT. This is where some questions arose. I am in need of some help as to what mixer I should look at. I know I need something with 8 outs for the ADAT, but am unsure what to look at. I have heard nothing but praise about Mackie mixers, but I can not afford one of the 8 bus studio consoles. Can I use something along the lines of the VLZ series? I saw that the 16xx had 8 direct outs on it. Can this be used with an ADAT? Is this something you guys would reccommend??

thanks

If you can't afford a Mackie, take a look and listen to the Behringer range of smaller mixers. About half the price of Mackie, and extremely quiet, transparent and flexible.

You don't need to go overboard with your mixer. The company that makes your ADAT makes excellent mixers. Studio 24 will fill your bill. It has direct outs, sweepable mids, flexible sends/inserts, quiet and transparent electronics. For the price, you can't beat it.

An Allen & Heath board is a good alternative to a Mackie. The 14:4:2 Mix Wizzard has 6 full aux sends(pre/post). It has 10 mono and 2 stereo strips. Mono strips have 2 sweepable mids and stereo have 2 fixed mids. It has 4 group out and seperate L/R outs. each of these has inserts, as do the mono strips. Also, the group and L/R masters have reverse features that allow the group faders to be reversed with the aux masters. this helps for doing live shows. Price here in Canada is about $2000 im not sure about US.
