so, I finally settled on a tascam m520, in almost perfect condition, except that the 8 buss outputs (xlr's) won't work. everything else about the board performs flawlessly right down to immaculate pots, even all the other outs are in top form, but the 8 main outs will not put out a signal.

If anyone has any idea of either what might be wrong, or how I could go about fixing it, I'd appreciate the advice, it seems very weird that all 8 would be completely dead.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Regards,
Rich

Read the manual....

There may be something very simple that you are not doing just right. Read the manual first, especially the section regarding channel assignments, pan control, master out section, pre-post eq fader etc.

Without the board to look at, I can't tell you much more than that but it would be highly unlikely that all 8 bus amplifiers are blown.

I'm guessing it is just a switch or patch cable needed to make it work.

Hey Jazzrich, I have an M600. I wonder if the buss channels have inserts on them? If so do they need to be normalled to get signal across the cuircuts?

Just a thought.

Hi guys, thanks for the reply, I'm kind of in a holding pattern while I wait for the manual...

I think the answer will probably lie in the loads of pgm ins and outs on the back of the board that I don't quite understand... there is a pgm access section, that has jumpers on each of the send and receive channels... there is also a non descript 'pgm' section that has 1-8 as well as a pgm out with two rcas for each out 1-8

(I'm using these as my buss outs while I wait to fix the problem with the mains. As near as I can tell, they work the same as the buss outs, but removing the aux efx from the signal)

Jake, your suggestion sounds like it might involve those wiley little pgms in some way... do you have those on the 600?

Anyway, thanks for the help, I'll probably post again once I have the manual. If I still can't figure it out.

Thanks.

On the M600 you need to jump each send to a return by patchbay or direct cable or no sound goes anywhere.
