Hello Homerecorders!

I had a MACKIE 24-8 in my home studio, connected to an ALESIS ADAT HD24. The studio snake was connected to the XLR inputs. The Direct Outputs were connected to the ADAT Inputs and the ADAT Outputs were connected to the Tape Returns. When I tracked, I listend in the control room via the MIX B Section. I send this to the headphoneamps to in the studio (sometimes I worked via the AUXES for a headphone cue).

I have always loved the sound of Mackie preamps and EQ's but it was time for a change and a step up. So i've bought the TOFT ATB 32 channel mixer. I read a lot about it. It is an awesome machine. Looks real great and sounds very good. The EQ's are quite something. Real class.

However, I have some problems. Propably because it's all new to me, and I'm used to the MACKIE way of working...

For example: How can I see on the TOFT the input (metering) of a channel? There is a SOLO button, and if you press it you can see the input on the LEDS and the VU's . But... There's a SOLO MASTER knob, and this has an influence on the solo channel metering: if I solo one channel, I can see the LEDS lighting up, to show me the level. If i turn up or down the SOLO master button, the metering changes too. Is this normal? How can I read what's really coming in? The SOLO button is AFL. There is a way of putting it in PFL (by opening the mixer and changing it inside the board), but that's not that handy when you're tracking or mixing... Does anyone have a sloution or knows what I'm doing wrong?

Second example: On the MACKIE I usualy made a monitor signal via the MIX-B section. The MIX-B has a potentiometer volume control and a pan control. This I could send very easily to the headphone outputs, so the musicians could hear themselves. On the TOFT there's a MON section, that seems similar to the mix-b section, but you can't send it to the headphones. That's too bad. Actually the MON section at the ATB works completely diffirent from a MIX-B. I guess that the MON is just a way of monitoring and the MIX B is what i says: an other mix.

Third example: On the MACKIE when you put some channels in a subgroup, it's very easy. Just put the buttons of the subgroup needed, then put up the faders of the group and it's done. At the TOFT you have to do this too, but you have to see that the MON-knob of the subgroup is open.

Don't get me wrong: the TOFT is a lot better than the MACKIE. And it sounds really great. But I'm stuck a bit with how it works.

Can anyone help me?
Maybe someone has had similar problems?
Maybe someone of the TOFT company?
Maybe someone owns a TOFT and can work very good with it?

It's too bad that such a nice mixer has such a small manual, with only the basic info.

I hope someone here can help me.

Thank you very much,

JRB
