Hi all, OK I sit in with irish session band, and am running out of plug ins, we've used an additional mixer to run multiple to main powered mixer,so I know that set-up works. I've also just started our own group, and need to plug in mandolin, drum, cello, so we can mute when we trade off instruments. Looking at the mackie 802/1202, behringer eurorack etc... any thoughts? Define the number of mic inputs and line inputs you need and add a couple just in case. I would avoid Behringer and any of the Chinese made Mackies. An older U.S. built Mackie VLZ series would be okay if in good shape. Allen & Heath makes good small mixers these days.

Note that line inputs are not instrument inputs, though in some cases they'll do in a pinch. In many cases you need a direct box connected to a mixer's mic input if you use instruments with pickups.

Avoid chaining one mixer into another if possible. You run into routing limitations with that setup.
