i was wondering for just for a small studio do i need to buy a mixer or just a preamp just for my condenser mic im about to buy.i heard that mixers like the behringer UB1204-PRO has invesible preamps so im thinking that might be better but i dont know if the invisable preamp will work as weel as just a preamp.also if you record in a mixer and use the effects on it,will it record in the computer with the effects on it. i heard that the effects put hiss or noise on the vocal so it probablu bess to use the computer software effects.any help would be great

If you are not recording more than 2 channels at once i recomend the preamp. If you get a mixer you will loose on the quality of the sound unless you buy one of those expensive mixers, but if you are on a budget just get a desent preamp around $600-$1000 so you dont have to go backwards later on.

Hope that helps,oh and BTW enough with the Behringer, please people stop the insanity!!!

I'm beginning to think these people ask this (BRNGR)stuff on purpose!

Yo Joe:

There are MANY mic pres out there; research and look and try to listen to some of them if possible at a vendor.

The GRACE 101 can be had for around 500 or less--it has dropped in price. But, it only has one in/out.

The ART dual channel is a fairly good mic pre and is not expensive. I own both of these and use them.

The Grace is very good for vocals. You might want to get a copy of TapeOp as they have many ads for mic pres.

Use this source as a research tool, as well as using the net to check and check and check before you write a check.
