Mixer inputs

Can you plug in microphones in the mixers line inputs??
I have a Behringer UB1202. This one has 4 mono mic inputs, and 4 stereo line inputs. I tried to record drums using 8 mics, and the results were awful, could the problem be, that I'm using the line inputs as mic inputs?
Any help will be appreciated.

Mic->pre->line input. You need to amplify the mic signal before going into your line inputs.

I think I'll need some more pre amps.

In the beginning I thought there was something wrong with the mixer. But everything is cristal clear. :D
Now I have to search in my country for an 8 input/output preamp.
