hey folks,

i'm looking for a new mixer to use with my tascam tsr-8 1/2" reel recorder. i already have a little mackie 1202 vlz, which i dig but want a different flavor. i have been using the mixer from my old tascam 688 8 track cassette. cool mixer, but not much headroom and limited outputs. i guess i'm also looking to step up. i don't need to track with the board as i have some decent pre's, comps and such. so i'll be using it strictly for mixing.

thanks!

tony

ps - i'm not really interested in digital boards btw.

I have a Fostex R-8 (8 track on 1/4´´reel.)
I´m using a Alesis Studio-24 mixer to this tape recorder.

Very pleased and you don´t have to repatch at all, if you set it up correctly.
Read this :
http://www.alesis.com/products/studio24/index.html
You can even download the manual from this page.

I even had a look at Mackie 1604 VLZ, but you needed to do a lot of repatching on the Mackie, so the final decision was the Alesis, and I havn´t regretted it so far.

I´ve done a lot of good recording with this setup. All from really hardrock to acoustic recordings.

Hope this will help

Forgot to say that with the Alesis-24 mixer you can go direct from channel 1 on the mixer to channel 1 on the taperecorder.
or
via the sub group do a setup of 1 to 16 channels and divert them all to 1 or 2 channels on the taperecorder.
( It doesn´t have to be channel 1 or 2, you can divert them to any channel you like on the taperecorder. )
If you do this remember that if you add some effekts on the mix, they will also be recordered.
This will not happen if you go direct from one channel on the mixer to one channel on the taperecorder.

You have inserts to channel 1-8, where you can input all your outboard effects and even a main insert for the whole mix( just above the headphone volume button) for a finalizer effect.
Like the Behringer Ultramizer PRO DSP 1400P.
