Ok, i'm trying to de-behringerize my studio. My mixer actually has held up for 3 years and i've had decent recordings from it but everything except the preamps and main outs seem to have problems. It really doesn't like the AUX returns to control my moniters. I'm looking at the yamaha mg10/2 and the soundcraft compact 4. I've been recommended both by many people but everyone who has recommended one has not used the other. From what i get is the soundcraft is a bit higher quality. All things being equal, i like the look of the yamaha better (i know that's dumb and it's a buying point) and it has more preamps. Now the number of preamps is not important to me. I only need two. I use one for my condenser that i just fine tune and one for my dynamic that i use now only to talk online. 4 would be better for when i record with someone consistantly but it's not a buying point for me either. So i basically my only concern is soundquality. I have heard some people complain about the mg with dynamic mics. I don't use my dynamic that much so it isn't too much of an issue but a bit of a concern. Btw, my mics are an sm 57 and an mxl 990 (nothing special). Any help would be greatly apprciated.

BTW, sorry for the essay, I've searched around and have not found any conclusive results. I think i'll be happy either way but want the best for my $$$.

I've got a 10/2 and it seems very satisfactory. However, it's not the easiest thing to set up independent monitor and record mixes, but I use it for other things because I have a Tascam US122.

I actually don't record that much so that isn't a big deal. I can defineately deal with that. I am mostly into hip hop production and just rap occationally. The main reason i'm buying a mixer is for my moniters. Idealy i'd like something seperate but i'm not going to pay $300 for the mackie big knob or something. My moniters were only $300 to begin with. I figure this is a decent way to get a good mixer and control my moniters, even if it isn't the most convinient way.
