I was looking to buy a mixer that could have 4-8 channels that can record individual channels out to a soundcard. I don't want one that just record a stereo out. I need to be able to record each individual channel. What would be a good mixer/soundcard to get. Preferably under $500 for both.

assuming you have a reasonably powerfull pc eg..amd athlon..
i would suggest an yamaha mixer and look at delta, terratec, emu and other
multi input sound cards. just make sure you can return the sound card
if it doesnt seem to like your particular pc confign.
if you post your confign IN FULL. including what you have in your pci slots i'll suggest any potential problems. peace.

Any particular models? And I want independent channel audio (analog or digital) to go to the computer.

zona. there are just too many models on the market.
a lot of folks on this forum seem to favor the delta 1010lt, others the emu1820m for example, and there are many many others.
somebody told me recently he liked the terratecs.
it changes by the month as more models come out to market.
whats hot now, might change in a few months.
people like zzounds.com normally have a complete list.

I'd say get a firepod... though I think it's a little higher than your budget.

and I know it's not a mixer/card combo, but if your just using it for recording it's just as good... and comes with cubase

Thanks. What kinds of cables would I need to connect and record those channels independently. Answer me this and I swear I will stop bugging the crap out of you guys.

yeah, im right there with you ...im trying to do the same thing.... a sound card that allows me to do 4 indiv ins...like put 4 mics on the drum set...and then have 4 sep tracks...i was thinking about the above metnioned Delta...but what is with all those RCA jacks..!! dont i need XLR...it wouldnt work, umless you used some cheap adapters...right?!

what about the delta 44? i know i would need a mic-pre-amp...but i could have 4 indiv ins...10 ins sounds cool, but it they are just a bunch of rca jacks how does that work?!!!

You would use cables such as these, going from the channel inserts on the Yamaha mixer to the inputs of the 1010LT.
To maintain signal flow through the mixer, you only plug the cable into the insert half way (single click).
Here is the block diagram of the MG 16/4.

aurora. you need a proper mixer. like the yamaha mg crankz mentioned.
you just cant plug mics willy nilly into the delta line inputs. peace.

Yeah the 44 will work as well. It's only $150 anf the breakout box is nicer than than the mess of rca jacks, but will 4 tracks be enough? I have the 44 and it's served me well so far, but if I was buying now, I'd probably go for the extra inputs

Those cables you posted crankz, is that the only way? For some reason that just doesn't seem right (the half input) What would happen if you put them in all of the way. Does the other end of that go into the RCA?

p.s. guess I lied about not bugging you anymore ;)

zona. its a breeze. just run the cables from the inserts to soundcard line inputs. or fostex has patch bays you can tap off of that i use that you plug all your devices into. thus mic1 can go to sound card input 3 etc.
