Hi,

I produce a podcast, up to recently just two people on a mobile pre. Now we are having 4 to 6 people one of our crew has donated a mixer. It's a beringher model.

I understand how to set the gain on the mics as this is something also needed on the mobile pre. The issue I have though is the relation between the line in volume level on my mac book and the output of the mixer.

As I'll have only about an hour to set this up before our show do you have any recommendations?

In my mind I am thinking:

1. set the gain of all the mics
2. I think on the model mixer it's something like tape out (line level) into the line in on my intel macbook - here I am thinking of setting the recording level at 75%
3. Tweak the output on the mixer from low going up until the input on the sound prefs peaks just below max

Amy advice would be welcomed.

Regards

Sounds like you've got a good handle on it.
Any way of testing the set up before air time?

I wish I had more time

Chaps,

Thanks for the responses.

First, I wish I had more time but looks like I'll get 3 or 4 hours max
Second, I am not sure about the quality of the mobile pre, using it in small doses seems fine but lately it's been playing up (or at least I think it is)
Third, with going into the mobile pre you end up with this situation:

Gain on the individual mics
Main out on on the board
Gain on the mobile pre hardware
Gain tweak on the mobile pre software
Record level on the mac book

I am hoping with my short time and KISS by removing the mobile pre remove two of the above points where I may need to make adjustments.

Just want to know with an early macbook intel unibody if anyone has had any experience with the best setting in the sound pref. My gut is telling me three quarters .......
