G'day people!
I know this may sound dumb but could you bare with me!
I am getting a new sound card, a delta 1010, so i can record multiple tracks at the same time, my question is, do most mixers have a output for each channel? for example, i plug 6 mics into the mixer how do i get those six outputs individually to six of my sound cards inputs.
Ive only ever recorded 1 track at a time because i have a SOUND BLASTER 2!!! he he..
could someone please explain this question to me please and maybe suggest some suitable mixers, i have a 2 channel behringer job at the moment
and will need to upgrade to 12-14 inputs, any comments will be muchly aprieciated!!
cheers...

If your 'Behringer job' has direct outs you can use those to feed the inputs of your Delta 1010.

Some do, some don't. And you're correct that this is the key to recording multiple inputs all at once. You may find this article from EQ magazine helpful:

It uses a Mackie 1402 as an example, but the general advice applies to any mixer that offers direct outputs (or insert points that can be used that way).

This is something that just bugs me. With all the multi input audio interfaces out there, how many 12 channel mixers actually are designed so that you can directly output to an interface? I don't know of any, other than some proprietary hardware/interfaces. Hasn't the mixer manufacturing industry figured out yet that this would be a hot commodity? A 24 channel mixer which has been design for recording: having direct to "tape" outputs can cost thousands, even tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars. Even from behringer.

Isn't it about time someone developed a simple, affordable 8-12 channel mixer with direct outs? Other than that I go from a preamp directly into my Delta 44. A simple solution would be to get a multi channel preamp or preamps. It is also an expensive solution depending on what preamps you intend to use.

well, in the future i will be in the market for a multi track soundcard and a mixer that has independant outs per channel. finding the soundcard for multi-track recording is the easy part. the mixer is the tough part. now what i got so far from this thread is that independant outs can be mickey-moused by using the channels fx send outs. that's cool and all, but what if i actually have effects that i want to use before i go out to my soundcard. so ultimately i would need an independant out for each channel along with the fx/send returns.

does anyone know of any mixers that have independant outs per channel???
