i own a mackie 1642. if i record a guitar and record it to my mixdown deck it sounds great. i own a roland vs880 that i record onto for multitracking(digital). when i mix down from there the sound quality drops. what am i doing wrong? also what wsi the difference between dynamic and condensor mics?

Condensor mics are for detailed clear sound, such as vocals acoustic intruments etc. They usually require a power supply such as phantom power, which you have on your Mackie, or an internal battery.
Dynamic mics are more rugged in nature and are used on more stronger signals such as guitar amps and kick bass as well as they are the most common choice for live work because of their makeup.
This can crossover and some peopl like dy cs cond for vocals. No rules. The condensor is more prone to a broader pickup.
I used to own a VS880 now a 1680.
Check your levels. Also are you plugging the mic directly into the VS or what.
I find that a premap be it mic or guitar works the best. Such as the Mackie in front of the Vs.

Sorry for typos.
Some like dynamic versus condensor for certain applications.
Preamps will help your sound going into the VS880 unit. I found that the inputs are not that great, but once you get a good signal in the VS880 it makes for a great machine.
