mixdown woes :-/

hi there...

I just found this bbs - way cool! ...

Pls allow to present myself first : I am Alfred, austrian but living in Chile, South America

looks like there is an awful lot of knowledge here :cool:


I am a new user of CEP2.0 and find it reasonably easy to work (I hade some basic knowledge already).

But recently I encountered a problem that I couldnt solve.

I have - say - 8 waves that i mixdown. I keep a good eye on the overall levels - so no prob's here ... but the mixdown has quite some pops/static clicks and other sounds that are def. not on the wav's ... even the better part of the mixdown is just on wave playing and yet the sounds are there.

It is more noticable on the lower volume parts of the song, so its not clipping. I have a "reasonably" good comp 1,6mhz 7200 hdd, however onboard soundcard.

ahhh... and its not mp3 errors, they also appear when i save the mixdown as wav.

what would be my best bets to start looking at?

care to listen to an example?

i listened to one song and heard no pops or clicks that you mentioned.. sounds to me that you have pretty good quality
 
ok actually I got passwed the first two minutes of the bottom song and i see what your saying now.. i think its just t your placement in position to the mic i think your standing too closw to it thats why your vocals have a pop and click to them.. try ading more space between your self and the inttrstrument in position of the mic that should help you out alot
 
I heard some clicks about 1.26. Dunno bout the end of the song - there's too much distortion on the guitar for me to hear anything else lol.

I don't think it's mic placement. It sounds electrical to me. Maybe a lousy mic cable? Maybe a lousy soundcard? Maybe a loose connection somewhere? My guess is that it's the soundcard, cuz it's distorting the vocal as well as popping, but what do I know?
 
I'm with dobro on this. In a non-gay sort of way... :D

I'd venture to say it's your sound card as well. On-board cards usually are of very low quality. I'd suggest stepping up to something which is made for recording. Perhaps an Audiophile, or an Echo. Both are nice on the budget and pretty straight forward.

yeah i really think you should at least try putting more space between the vocalist and the mic and the instrument and the mic first.. i think that might be part of your problem.. i have a pretty cheap soundcard and the only time i noticed that type of distortion that your having is when i was too close to the microphone

you might want to try that out first before you run and spend a bunch of money on a new soundcard and come to find out that your still having the same type of problems
