Hi,

I currently record my vocals, dry, directly into my TASCAM 424mkIII portastudio. I go microphone to 424 direct. On the 424 there are 4 rca outs (for each track) and I would like to use one of these channels (main vocals) to go through a compressor. (Yes, I have an rca adapter for one end of the 1/4" cable). What I would like to know is if I need a seperate preamp from the rca out to power the preamp to make it work OR am I fine just with a compressor (RNC) directly going from the rca ?

Thanks very much,

Daniel

if the vocals are coming back to the four track you need to use the effect send. EFFECT SEND -> COMPRESSOR -> DIFFERENT TRACK LINE IN

Well, actually, I use my lexicon reverb via the effect send 1 but I have the effect send 2/tape cue free so I can use that perhaps .. and use the knobs to amplify the tracks ? (I've heard that the "effect send" are for "effects" like the reverb and not for things like compression). Yeah, the vocal will be coming back to the 4 track and then back out using the 424's stereo outs to cd recorder. But what about the rca outs at the back ? I don't use those then for the vocal comp ?

Thanks,

Daniel
