mixdown to mini dv

I have not seen this posted but if it is I am sorry. Is it better to mixdown directly to your computer ( I can although the tape deck is large ) or can I mix down to a mini dv camcorder that I can firewire to my computer. in other words use my cam corder for a mix down deck. I could also go the VCR route but thought the mini dv might have better quality. any thoughts or tips would be helpful. thank you .

Even better is to pick-up a budget (but decent) soundcard such as the M-Audio Audiophile 2496 and record/transfer through it... they're around $200 or so...

Vito I don't think you could use the camcorder, if you are going in firewire, it would be more expensive to get software to extract the audio from the video.
