This is primarily to Dragon: I read your tips about mixing down to a cassette. I record on a Tascam 564 digital 4 track. Would it be better to mix down to 2 tracks on the Tascam? I guess I'm just not seeing what the difference would be. Apart from mixing to the Tascam, would I hear a lot better quality if I mixed down to a mini disc recorder? Eventually, I have to put the final product on a cassette (My only recording is doing some background singing tapes for church music and jingles for radio in a very small market town. They don't want anything on CD - don't ask me why??@!?)

I would go ahead and mixdown to cassette, but at the same time make a simultaneous mix to minidisc. Then give them the cassette, and keep the minidisc as a safety copy.

Later on when they shred the tape, you can make another copy for a small fee!

Sincerely;

Yo Mutt: (Where's Jeff?)

Your 4 tracker can ONLY MIX DOWN TO TWO stereo tracks if it's like most 4/8 track boxes.

I mix to tape from an 8 track digital MD-8; I use a good tape deck which has input control, automatic and manual, and I get some decent reproductions. They are not quite CD quality but are all right for most folks. My 8 track outputs just two lines in stereo so I can only mix/down in two track stereo.

Hope this clears up something for you.

Thanks for the advice. (BTW- Susanville is in north easter Calif about half way between Redding, Ca. and Reno, Nv.) Where the heck is Yorba Linda?? (If it's south of Portola I don't know where it is)

Yo Mutt:

Yorba Linda is a suburb near Anaheim. I have a high school buddy that lives in Yorba and I've been out there a couple of times over the years. I guess you live quite a bit away. California is a big place.

Keep recording,
