I just acquired a DA-88 degital deck hooked up to a Tascam 8 track mixer. Although I'm familiar with the basic concepts of recording, I've never used a mixer with this kind of functionality. I finished my first session and am very pleased with the results, but I have a few questions...
1. Why can't I EQ on playback? The EQ section was active during recording but is bypassed playing it back. Does this mean I can't EQ the mix from the board?
2. The board has 3 effects sends/returns. I have 1 effects unit in the loop 1. But on playback, it seems I can only dial in the effect by using the Aux send 3 control for each track. Doesn't make sense. I've checked all the connections. Any insights would be appreciated.

Hey Flyboy:

You should be able to use EQ when you are mixing down to tape/dat. I don't use a mixer since one is built into my Yamaha MD8. But, when you have finished a cut and even when you are recording a track, you should be able to hear EQ tweaks in the headset. So, I'm guessing that You're missing a step somewhere. Maybe you have the cue ON. The Cue is used to avoid a new track bleeding onto a track already finished.

I would get TASCAM on line and ask their techies for some answers.

As for your reverb loops, something is plugged in the wrong way. I have two effects sends on my MD8 and each is controlled by a knob; thus, I can hear the effects while recording but they aren't actually being recorded unless I punch it into the box to do so; thus, you can change your mind and tweak effects when you mix.

Again, I suggest you check the manuals or check with the Tascam on-line tech service.
