Hey folks.

Any good ideas on what medium to use for mixing down the 8 analog tracks?
Don't really have any cash, but have a MiniDisc standing by.

Is anyone here mixing down to a MD? (to be able to burn from a computer later on)
Or have ye a better suggestion...

Well if you have a computer I would mix direct into that. Why put your stuff through the loss of a mini disc and then transfere? Just use the computer.

Well, the problem is our studio is not in my apartment. I'd have to go back and forth with my computer (wich would not be a problem if it was a laptop) but perhaps I might end up doing just that.
Thanks for your reply though.

I got a standalone RCA dual deck CD recorder on ebay for 51 dollars last month. It works decently for mixdowns. I know you said you don't have any cash though... the computer might be your best route.

Use the Minidisc, if that's what you have handy.

Is it one of the Walkman style MD's or a console style MD? It might make a bit of difference. I've mixed down to my console style MD over the RCA inputs, and it was just great!;)

Yeah it's the walkman style sadly, I'll give it a try and if the loss is terrible I'll have to work out something else (like taking the comp with me).

It's not that Minidisc (Atrac) would present a huge loss,...

but it's the fact that the Walkman style recorders are not optimized to record from a Line level signal, the way the "home unit" style recorders are.

Good luck & let us know how it goes!

(See: Sony MDS-JE510 Minidisc Recorder,... Ebay item).
