Mixboard A Waste Of Money??

Curious... I bought be a cheap lil samson mixpad 12.. thinking that it would probably be useful for its routing options... but..
1) I'm thinking that running a mic line-in through it (from a pre) is probably not a good idea if I want to keep the cleanest signal, sound, etc. On second thought... I probably wouldn't want to run anything through it!
2)So what good is it? Maybe for playback? Wouldn't I want to play my monitors directly from the soundcard to get the most accurate signal too!? I'm thinking it was a waste of money(not much, but still!)... Someone help!!!

Well, yes, you could use the master section as a volume control. You could use it if you have a bunch of mics that need to go to the same source or stereo source (4 tom mics going to a stereo pair)...
