Soo.... First post! *eek* here I go.

I made some mixes from some a cappella stuff I had laying around. A cappella means just voices, so check it out, you'll be surprised.. ;)

You may not believe me, but everything is a human voice or originates from a human, fun stuff. Even the vocal percussion, no drum machines.

Everything is a little spicy in the upper end (bad monitors for mixing) so turn that treble down ;)

Watch Over You by Alterbridge - Record, Edit, Mix, and Master
Lady by Styx - Record, Edit, Mix (with the help of Bill), and Master
Starlight by Muse [REMIX] - Edit done by Ed Boyer, re-edit by myself, Mix and Master
Viva la Vida by Coldplay [REMIX] - Edit done by Ed Boyer, re-edit by myself, Mix, and Master

Non-A'Cappella:
Only a Dream by Paul Trinca (a Chip) - Record, Edit, Mix, and Master

Some notes:

Lady - Solo is a very very rough draft with no tuning aka just a scratch
Starlight - Solo isn't done, attempted an amateur AutoTune effect

So here you go:

All are in there...

I appreciate comments, I've only been doing this for a few months now, so take that into account... ;)

Thanks all!

hey nice work. just listened to "lady."

i make only instrumental music, so i'm in the opposite spectrum...
great vocal work.

i would say that the "bassline" do da doo doo doo in "lady" is a little to much in the front and takes away from the main vocal.

other than that, sounds good to me.

Just listened to Lady. The vocals are awesome! Nice job. When the instruments come in, I can't tell if it's a cymbal or shaker or what, but it's way too loud and has no definition. Sounds a bit smeared. Love the vocal tracks though, sounds just like Bob Dylan..... only kidding.:D

I started with draft 6. Almost stopped there. That woulda been a big mistake.

Screw the mixes: If you're not using digital pitch control on the vox...you have an A1 raw vocal gift. Reminds me of the guy from R Flatts, as far as natural pitch control.

Are you in music school? If not, go there. Your material and approach is unique. Your ideas are confined by unfamiliarity with harmony, I think. You have the ability to perform close voiced vocalizations. That's rare. Ever hear of 'Take 6'??

"Viva" and "Watch Over Me." had exceptional spells of musicality. Are you sure your not digitally correcting pitch??
Keep recording. Get some harmony and keyboard training. Very impressive creativity.

ps...the recordings are nice, too.

I can't listen right now, but unless he has a high end pitch correction software or hardware and is really good at using it, you would be able to hear it. Of course you have to know what to listen for...

The guy's pitch control, modulation and tone is amazing..I can hear voodoo when it's obvious...but this is real subtle application, or his voice is one in a million. Given some compositional knowledge to expand on ideas I think I hear him verging on, he could do some amazing stuff.

I mentioned 'Take 6', cuz they have some of the finest vocals I ever heard....I think his voice in in that ballpark. If he can sight read, he's got a studio career.

I didn't much notice the compositions and the recording quality...all I heard was that voice....almost too good to be true?

Wish I could sing like that.

I can't wait until I can listen. Can't do it on a gov't pc. Almost everything is blocked...

I'll keep that in mind...kewel...you spit in your own mics! I have a good guy for that....but he's hard on my equipment....so I nevah.....

Are you talking about Lady or Watch Over You?

Either way.. two different guys... but THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Yea.... forgot to delete that one....

I used it twice, once the voice cracked and twice there was a 'Lady' out of pitch. Hey... rough solos.

Of course I know Take 6! haha... and no I'm in engineering school. I only did the recording, editing and mixing. The arranging was done by someone else who has more musical talent than I... I just sang bass.

There is *some* pitch correction on the backgrounds only to clean it up... I use Melodyne Studio 8 and Auto Tune Evo. Every part is doubled accordingly to add 'width to the sound'... Viva was 48 tracks, Watch over you was 55, and Lady maxed out at 64... stereo for all those.

ps...the recordings are nice, too.

Thank you!
