Mix my drums?

Hi,

Pretty nice !
Toms, snare and overheads sound great.

It just needs some adjustments ... The kickdrum could need more lowend and a bit more highs around 4000-5000Hz (just my opinion).Overall you might cut some mids. Sounds a little bit muddy (not much) , maybe its the room.

Well it is allways hard to say how the drums will fit into the mix without hearing the other instruments. Sometimes soloed instruments sound really bad on their own and only sound right together with the other parts of the band.
As far as I can say (never recorded drums by myself, hit me I use samples)
the recording sounds pretty good on its own !!!
I didnt´hear other recordings from you , so I can´t tell you that you have improved your skills :-)

I don't see any issues with your tracking other than Tom#3 is distorting (drums_14_tom)

FWIW, here's a quick mix

Kit Mix

You did a good job tracking.

Nice mix Sonixx...you kept me from wasting an hour, lol.

I put your 4 tracks in REAPER (I didn't bother with the tom tracks), and mixed them. They sound pretty good. It was hard to get a lot of thump out of the kik, but it's certainly not bad. I think your biggest enemy is the room. It's ringing pretty mid-y, but again, not bad at all. With the snare, kik and 2 overheads, I was able to get a decent drum mix.

Thanks a lot of the input guys :)

We have been recording some demo material for my band and the first few tracks we recorded just didn't sound great. Especially the drums.

I have been trying to get better at recording those and our drummer got a new 3000 dollar drum kit, so it sounds really good too :)

nice

a couple things -

the kick drum does sound muddy and could use a little more Kiiiick to it...
and when listening to the snare i had a HORRIBLE flashback to Metallica's St. Anger...lol
nothing that cant be altered...

all in all sounds good...

Do you think the muddy kick is result of the microphone, the room, or the mic placement? Also, should I try putting the microphone under the snare to get more of the snare sound?

I doubt the room has a significant role in the kick and I'm guessing the kick mic is inside the kick drum.

No. This will add difficulty when EQing the Kick.

Based on your Thread Title, I thought you were asking for a Mix. Maybe I misunderstood.

I thought he wanted a mix too...
Well Sonixx mix is very good. The kit sounds great except the distorting tom.

What kind of kit is it?
