Someone may have mentioned this already, but MIX magazine has a few cool articles in the August issue. There is on new small diaphragm mics, another on recording drums, and another one by Stephen St. Croix on how he mics drums. He has some twisted ideas, most of which I want to try. I don't think I want to try and make a laser mic, however!
