mix in progress... kinda stuck

I like the sound. The pops and clicks are there though. Should try to fix that. Also, couple spots on the drums where it seemed kinda out of time. Maybe the other instruments will hide it a little.

But then again, who am I to talk??

Hey Chizzy - first off, I really liked the song! Very cool...
Mix-wise, on my system a few things seemed to stand out- overall I think it sounds good, this is just some stuff that kidna struck me...
The Rhodes-y type piano in the beginning seemed a bit tubby, especially the left hand chords... it seems like you're going for that kind of lf sound with it, but it just seemed perhaps a bit too muddy in the low mids...
The snare felt a bit too 'cracky' and didn't have a lot of energy behind it - perhaps a bit too much eq boosting in the high end?
Also, the bass guitar seemed a bit high in the mix (not the bass frequencies, but the instrument itself).
Well you can take that or leave it, again it's just my taste... I did quite like it and I think the mix is good, that's why I nit-picked, cause I want you to make this thing sound great when all the parts are there, and I wanna hear it! :D

Thanks guys...I think a lot of the problems came from my half-assed "mastering" at the last second (which consists of throwing it into sound forge's WAVE HAMMER!!!! (tm) on the 'limit at 6db and maximize' preset) the first time I coverted it to mp3 it sounded very tinny, so I did that. That's prolly where the "pops & clicks" came from as well...

The drums were done with an oktava 319 on the kick, 10" in front of the res head. SM57 on the underside of the snare for beef, and MXL 993's for overheads. I'll prob cut some of the "crack" from there...

the Rhodesy thing is reason running inside of Ableton, so I can swap out anything I want for that...

thanks for the crits. My drummer went to Japan for 2 weeks, and my singer/rhythm guit guy is gone until August, this is one of 3 tracks we worked on before they left. I think I've been obsessing a bit about this particular track. I have some horns lined up to fill in the choruses...I plan on recording them in the stairwell outside of my studio. :D

Cool man, that'll be great with live horns!
I like the sound of the Rhodesesque, I think it's just a matter of its eq - or maybe the Wavehammer is what's causing the problem in the first place!

I love it. I would also say that the first bit with the organ is a bit boomy in that one key stroke. But the music is killer man. I want to hear some vocals with that. Please post it when finish, just for my musical enjoyment.

in the intro I do some wah swells while tapping the neck of the guitar, sort of a nervous habit of mine, maybe I should isolate that more, or get rid of it. I think it may be adding to the boominess. Thanks again!

Great sound, reminds me a bit of The chemical brothers on the surrender album. Really good sounds, love the bass and the drum patterns..also those swells in the background are quality, i would bring those out more, maybe do a few frequency sweeps with the whole mix.
