Someone wants me to put their record on cassette tape. I've been thinking of getting a deck for the studio anyway. But I don't know where to start:
What's good deck? (w/out breaking the bank, especially since it won't be used often)

Do I still need to mix down to a stereo pair? OR...

Can I just get the mix right and send the whole thing out? AND..

Someone mentioned mixing down to a 4 track cassette recorder, which I happen to have. How might the quality of this method compare with that of a Denon or some other DECK?
Thanks,
Michael

personally I think if they are asking for a cassette then they arn't terribly concerned with quality. I would use your 4 track and give them a CD too in case they come to their senses. Do try to hint to them that they must be crazy for wanting a cassette as most places won't even accept it for a demo.

You can't mixdown to a 4track unless it plays at the regular slower tape speed.

It is pretty silly to want a casette master for a number of reasons. I wouldn't spend money on one unless you really think you will use it for other stuff. Re mastering my ancient crappy demos on old tapes is the only reason I even keep my casette deck around.
