Before learning to mix, you might consider improving your grammar......!

Anyways........ Mixing Article --> Mixing 101

To stop clipping when you are recording just turn the levels down a bit....or use a compressor.

Isn't there a newbie section for a reason?

Blue Bear must get about 10,000 hits a month from his (excellent) mixing 101 article. It's thrown around here like candy on Halloween.

Saves a lot of re-typing, since the same questions tend to keep getting asked over and over and over!!! ;)

clipping:

maybe a professional has a method of fixing this i dont, but the best rule:

dont clip to begin with. In the analog days, a little clip distortion was desireable, and tape saturation was a good hot signal that smeared the high frequencies together, and people liked it.

digital equipment doesnt react the same way...when the a/d conversion hits a certain point...it goes to sh!t...

dont hit that level in the first place...mic slightly further away, real-life compressor before it hits the soundcard or a/d unit.

great article.. I certainly found it very useful! In fact, I'm putting all my new found knowledge to work in the current mixing comp...
