minimum comp req. for recording

Hello - am new to board... would like to start recording on my old pc....pentium3 333mhz, 512 ram...what do i need to make this work? would I be better off investing in a more powerful machine? I would lke to spend what little money I have on interface, mics, etc.....

You don't need a super fast computer for recording...but 333Mhz?

I would invest in a better computer. Anything < 500MHz is pushing it.

But it really depends on how much you'll be recording (how many tracks, how much effects you plan on using, etc.).

I've used a 333MHz machine that my mom used to have and it was SLOW. I personally wouldn't want to record with it. Although it also only had 64MB RAM so that had a lot to do with it.

If you're stuck with that computer I'd put Windows 98 on there and get a really lightweight recording program like Reaper or Audacity or something.
