Hi,

Years ago, I painstakingly recorded a large reggae vinyl collection onto MDs.
I know, should have done my homework first.
Anyway, I know I can transer them onto an external CD burner for example, or
PC with proper sound card etc;
The question is, does it have to be track by track in real time?
And even worse, will it recognise the start and end of each track, or will I have
to listen and cue the start and end for every track?

Thanks for your time.
I realise this has been covered elsewhere in some form or another.

That is going to be up to the software used to do the transfer. generally, yes you will need to manually set the beginning and ending of each track, although there is some software that will automatically detect zero volume gaps (if a song has one in the middle of it, though, it will then get divided into separate tracks).

Thanks. That's what I thought. I got into enough trouble with zero volume gaps. I would be better off listening the whole time, and doing it myself.
Except that's not going to happen.
It's not worth my time.
Damn those MDs!

Record a whole disc at a time into the computer then use editing software to chop it up into the separate songs. If there's a digital output on the MD then find an interface that accepts the format used (probably optical or coax S/Pdif). The headphone output or other analog connection from MD is not likely to be that great.
