Just got a Sony Minidisc walkman. Main purpose - okay, sole purpose - record live shows for transfer onto CDR. Analog - yes. Less than perfect - yes. I am willing to accept these. What I am not willing to accept is not being able to get my freakin' PC to 'recognize' the songs for saving as .wav files. I'm sure there's a very simple solution and I just haven't found it yet. I've got a miniplug connection from my recorder into the soundcard. Not the right soundcard? Any special software? I've tried Real Jukebox just for testing purposes but no-go. Any suggestions/experience out there? This *has* to be possible...

I have no problem doing this... just run the output into your soundcard's input and go into a recording program, like the soundrecorder program that comes with windows or something like cooledit or whatever, and hit record. it's not always the best way to do it but it should work!

muted in system?

I've tried that - I've been told that somewhere in the system there may be a mute enabled. I can hear the tracks through the soundcard & speakers, but none of the recording software I've used will 'pick up' on the sound. I've looked through every bit of the control panel I can think of and the volume is up on everything and none of the mutes are enabled.

Finally got it - hidden back a few screens on the speaker controls I found the culprit - the recording was only set up for the Mic input. Switching it to Line In did the trick. Ripped my first few tracks and I'm quite pleased with the results. Thanks!

Ah... excellent, figured something like that would be the most likely reason...

When I first started I returned a soundcard because I thought it didnt work based on this situation.

yeah...so much for plug and play
I've wasted time on this my first go too
