I'm contemplating which one to get for running Logic Pro.

Basically, I'm stuck between a G4 867 and 733 and a Mini 1.25.
Which one should I get? (and no, I can't afford a G5 at this moment so no point mentioning)

neither. thats like running SX on a 733 p3 and is a waste of money. Running $1000 program on a old ass machine like that is kinda like putting $2000 rims on a $200 car. Save up for a imac

Ok, then why does lots of professional studios use G4s?

Thats because they have $20K invested in protools hardware which does all the work

How about a Dual 867 or 933? (considering I'll be using atleast 1gb of ram)

everything i've done was recorded in protools le with a 933g4
not to say that i havn't hit the limit a time or 2, but only rarely.
samples in my sig.

What if i get a slow ass G4 466mhz and then get the Sonnet upgrade 1.4ghz CPU to boost up the processing power? Will that be better?

Currently, i'm getting all these crackles and pops with my MOTU on my PC. I was wondering that, will getting a Mac solve this problem?

I wouldn't get touch anything less than a Core Duo Mac Mini if I were you. Logic was really tuned to run optimally on a two processor (or at least dual core) machine from what I've read.

My advice is to spend the extra three or four hundred bucks now and save yourself from smashing your head against a wall and swearing at the machine later. :D

what kind of money are you looking at paying for a dual G4 tower or mini? I can see it being worth it if it's $200-$300, but any more than that and you might as well get a new (or refurbished) Core Duo Mac Mini. the performance and longevity will be worth the extra couple hundred bucks.

damn straight. get a mac mini. they're frickin awesome.

i have mixed feelings about the mac mini.. whats the new ram capccity on the new ones? the originals only went to 1gb which was like no good at all for me.

i think that a powermac g4 dual 1.33/1.42 should be the lowest you should go. i really wouldnt advise getting the 933 or 867 or whatever, or getting a single core/cpu computer. the duals are like amazingly more powerful, with macs anyway.

if it helps, i grabbed my dual G5 for $1250 ish, plus like $250 in ram upgrades. and $200 for the monitor.

Up to 2 GB. And the Core Duo version should smoke any G5 except the Quad, hard drive performance notwithstanding. Well... for floating point math in audio... maybe not... but it'll certainly smoke the G4s.

i dont know, my g5 is pretty wicked..

but it prolly would smoke any single core g5 or any dual g4.
