Hey all,

Any anyone tell me what would be the best way to get a mini disk to a cd?. Anyone know of any software out their, or should i just do it the old way, record to the puter, then onto a cd?

Thanks

...

Just record from the analog out's of the MD player to the analog line In's of your soundcard,... is the only way I know of.

The fancier MD players had the optical-out, but you'd need a soundcard with an optical-in.

i probably have a different set up to most in that i dont use a computer

i record from the stereo out on the MD8 into another MD player, via a compressor, i then if necessary digitally record from the MD player to a domestic CD recorder

i much prefer the sound and quality of CDs recorded on domestic CD recorder units (even if they are slower at copying) than on computers, particularly high speed duplication Cds from computers, as a very good hi fi system will pick up imperfections, unless the sound card on the computer is a very good quality one

if the CD is to be played back in a car, or on an average stereo system, theres probably no problem at all, but a top quality hi fi will reveal any clicks etc even ones imperceptible on cheaper hi fis

i've just bought one of the newer Hi-MD recorders, just as a toy really...

but at our last practice i recorded 90 minutes of uncompressed 16 bit, 44.1Khz stereo audio onto a single minidisc straight from our mixer (as everything is DI'ed).

i then uploaded the wav files to my PC using USB, and burnt the wavs to CD.

for 100 pounds i'm more than happy with my toy!

Have you tried using data discs from a multitack mindisc recorder (MD8, MD4, etc) in the unit? Wondering if it would read the data discs and allow you to upload the info and if it would be useable.

as far as i know, it's only the new Hi-MD format that can be uploaded using USB.

previously i made recordings on an older minidisc recorder (Sony MDS-JE520) and when i put these old discs into my new machine, they show up as the "Net-MD" format... and these cannot be uploaded via USB, which is a real shame. You're limited to using analogue or digital out real time recordings back to your pc.

therefore i assume whatever format the MD8 uses, it's won't be Hi-MD and therefore will not uploadable via USB.

There was a very short lived Data MD for the 'puter,...

but I kinda doubt you'd be able to find one on Ebay,... it was that rare. Kinda a format that never caught on. However, it doesn't stop you from looking!

... I don't think it would work concerning the MD8 data disc, but it might not hurt to try. That's when/if you could find one.;)

thanks for all your help guys, i managed to get it converted with out a problem,
