As Bruce Springsteen will be in Toronto next Thursday (Dec 5), I am thinking of purchasing a Mini Disc player to record the concert.

Can someone please tell me how easy or difficult it is to use the MD? Also, how is the sound quality? I'm not trying to make a bootleg of the concert to see and make a profit. I'm just a fan who would like to share the concert with other Springsteen fans.

Also, I would like to use the MD to record some of my music (vocals and keyboards). Does the MD provide mixing and mutli-track options?

Any comments would be appreciated.

I've done this with mixed results.

I have a sanyo minidisc recorder with an 1/8" mic input so it wasn't an ideal situation. I borrowed an audio technica stereo mic from Guitar Center. (hee-hee!)

the mic came with the 1/8" adapter so I was in business. To do live application, and mind you, this is just what I did, I brought some earbuds, tested the levels with the opening band, and held the mic whilst the band played.

Another thing I use the MD for is found noise recordings. Like rain, or wind for ambient effects. You can take it anywhere, right?

as for multitrack minidisc, I've heard discouraging things... Never done it, but I've heard discouraging things....

by "borrow," I of course meant I bought it and then decided against keeping it.

don't want to give anyone the wrong idea.

Yo Piano of Quartz:

I still have my MD8 by Yamaha hooked up in my studio; however, I don't use it much since I got my 2816.

But, I did some Good Stuff with the MD8 and, later, took some songs from the MD8 and put them into the 2816 and remastered them -- came out with a good product. 16 bit stuff is really fun.

I don't know if any other company came out with an 8 track MD? But, Yamaha was quite successful with its version and the price of the unit is pretty much the same as it was when it was a key product. Alas, how quickly electronics change.
