I didn't like where the multitracked voices lost sync and also when a single voice would pop out with the lead in line.

I thought the keys solo answered all my questions...

damn that hiss (especially in the fadeout). That is excessive for the equimpment you've listed.

More great stuff there dobro. I'm continually impressed by your unique songwriting and the amazing things you do with your voice. And I have yet to have a comment about the recordings, they just sound sweet to me (hey, I'm just a listener). Please don't ever stop! :D

I really like this song. Check that, I LOVE this song. I'm pretty sure that chorus will be in my head the rest of the day.

Here's some other things I really like:
your performance is really tight and the tone is perfect. I mean you sound like a human metronome on the guitar.

your voice is perfect for the song, which figures, cause it's your song. feel free to respond about how stupid that comment is. anyway your voice has a real presence in the song without feeling like it was engineered to sound that way. it just sounds like it naturally lays right where it should.

lyrics are excellent in a "damn, i wish i wrote that" kind of way.

Things I might change:
I think this could use some harmony. in my head i heard it clearly in the second verse. not sure the double vocal in the chorus is necessary.

I dunno about that synth solo. The sound is cool and very smooth, the solo sounds kind of random. If that's the effect you wanted. You got it, so keep it.

Now that I typed all that I'm thinking....don't change a thing. This is very original stuff. I'm sure it will be on my playlist for quite a while.

Yee Hah!!!

Even better than I remember it from the guide track.

The backing vocals doing that little back and forth pan thing was really nice.

Don't listen to anyone that tells you this thing has bad hiss.

That's BULLSHIT! I cranked the fuck out of it to painful levels and there was the barest hint of hiss in the quietest sections. I'm sure that was in my playback chain, not yours because I merely shut off the mp3 player and it was still there. :)

I hope you've got this thing copyrighted 'cause it's such a catchy tune I see KFC buying it for big bucks for one of their ads....

"There's a rumor of Wings... There's a rumor of Wings..."

>I thought the keys solo answered all my questions...

Wanna elaborate on what those questions were?

why there was all the friggin hiss..... I thought that was obvious. You don't have Cooledit, do you;) ? I thought doctors knew all the answers anyway.

dobro...I do like your hiss though.. But DO listen at the end during the tails of you last notes.. a little running rampant there? damn man,...you need a casette multitracker to get some of that analog warmth .....and "quality" analog hiss.

>You don't have Cooledit, do you

That was my first audio recording app on a platform long gone in a galaxy far, far away.

I don't hear any hiss. When I do, it doesn't bother me much anyway unless it were excessive.

This is different stuff Dobro. Damn a beat, even though just a kick. Wild! :)

Doc on keys at the end? this is too cool.

Those keys could use some effecting, bit of verb. Better yet, panned / eq'd verb on the keys, possibly delay. Playing great, just needs to be mixed in better (talking about just the keys, the whole mix as-is is cool).

Excellent dobro.

you know...that's what I was thinking too.

I'm changing my mind.

doctor....my crappy sarcasm isn't making a connection here.
I'll be serious now...I promise...

I didn't care for the 'keyboardish' instrument at the end....other than that it was very well done..........sounds like something john hartford would do in terms of singing style and song........particularly the 'mouth trumpet' part (for lack of a better term)..................nicely done, no real mix comments

I put this stuff up here and wait for comments, wait for what people notice first. If something *doesn't* get noticed, that's significant too. What I was wondering about (and nobody commented, so that's good) was how the bass and the beat came across. My monitors are good down to about 70 cycles, but I play bass down to 55 cycles sometimes, so there are 15 cycles of guessing when I mix bass.

Second thing: that's drstawl on synth at the end, not me of course. If the synth part doesn't work for you, then my advice is to listen to the song another 7 times. When he fired it off to me earlier this year, I listened to it and thought: 'Yup, that'll do very sweetly indeed.' But when I mixed the song earlier this week, I actually listened way more carefully to that synth part, and it's a piece of magic. It's like JS Bach soaked up a bit of the twentieth century and sat in on the session. The only downside is that my music's kinda primitive right now, and I didn't figure a way to calm down that busy guitar and just let the synth have its say.

The more i listen the more i like it. Please disregard my earlier comments.

LOL Oftener than sometimes, what I say doesn't have the intended effect. Or even the intended audience. LOL

Dobro & Doc, now that's a band!!

That was lovely, really enjoyed the song recording ect.

Glad I took a listen!!

What's all this talk about hiss, a little bit is inevitable, yes?

I didn't hear any, maybe through phones, but who cares. Hey it gives the song a little air.

Great vibe you got going there Dobro. Can't say I've heard much like this. Very likable song. I actually dug the keys on the first listen, and I don't care for "synthy" sounds too too often. Nice job, good writing!

Thanks for the encouragement. Okay, so if that didn't have any great big mistakes in it, I'll try a more complicated mix.

Thanks again. The feedback I've gotten on this is really valuable to me. :)

no advice here. Just wanted to stop by and say, cool tune. I like the singing style, kinda remind me of Roger Waters. Totally unique

...very cool vocal delivery....understated ...brilliant....i think the bass is great??....ok scratch the understated..part.....i didnt know you played trumpet????..lol;) harmonies are good..man this reminds me of somethin.........dang.....??....ill remember ......

what a hook!

friggin' melody is still in my head and i have like zero short term memory.

went back and listened to your other stuff and the difference in the warmth and clarity between this and say 'joy' is striking! very smooth, especially on the vocals. btw, i love the line in joy about diving into wells and tapping turtles shells.

now that i'm on my 10th listen there is something i would like to hear different. the percussion. i think you might be able to pull off something subtle but interesting. not that what you have isn't working and I don't feel like i could suggest anything all that compelling but it's just a thought.
