Okay...I just checked that out. And I have one question: Is it April 1st?

It's the new Melodyne - you can change notes within a chord AFTER it has been recorded!

Autumn 2008.

As amazing as it is, now people don't even need to know how to play their instruments. All songs will be done as if they were all done with MIDI. :(

Hell, some guy could just record a G chord and make a song out of it...

Come ooon, anyone that's ever used Melodyne or Autotune knows that there are rare sources that sound good when you dramatically alter their original pitch and there are sounds that completely fall apart if you move a note even a semitone. It'll be some time before you can completely remove good playing from the equation and still fool a real musician. This does look really interesting though. I hate pitch correction but it will be useful for coming up with harmonies for voices if it really works this well.

of course..there is NO chance to play instruments using MIDI... oh please. PLease learn about it before you speak.

this is very bad.

better give up playing guitar and learn how to play guitar hero instead.

Pretty freakin' cool.

Now when someone asks me if I can "do anything" about their out-of-tune A string in post, I won't snicker as loudly.

Wow! Impressive. That goes on my must upgrade list as soon as it comes out.

Oh, good, yet another reason for those who can't play or sing to think that they should step in front of a recorder :p:D

Something that I believe operates on a similar base technology of being able to isolates notes in a chord, but is used for quite different (and more useful IMHO) purposes is the Digitech Vocalist Live. A harmonizer based upon the structure of the actual chords played rather than a canned simple progression. A frend of mine is shaking one down now; I'm waiting to hear his report.

G.

I think software like that should have built in limitations to it. For example if 1 or 2 minor amendments are made to a vocal track in a song, it'll function as normal. But as soon as it starts to realise you are autotuning the shit out of the whole tune, this happens....

As an engineer, I think this is a pretty cool advancement, and love seeing technical barriers broken down. Not having heard it, and knowing what most pitch correction beyond about 33 cents sounds like, I'm skeptical that this will be very musical sounding beyond that. But even if it is capable of what some of you fear, why? Do you really think it's going to be practical to compose and record by such a method? That people won't even need to know how to play their instruments? I think that's a huuuuge stretch.

is this on youtube?

i watched some melodyne videos, but they didn't take a chord and change its quality
