Any advice on miking guitar amps for soloing? I'm somewhat new with home recording and I wasnt sure if was best to close-mike guitar amps for everything or just rythym and then distance-mike for solos? Any advice on this would be well appreciated.

Same rules apply as regular guitar.

Just ask yourself "do I need a more distant/ambiant sound or a closer, more in your face sound" and adjust mics accordingly.

Personally I use both near (dynamic) and far (condenser) mics when doing any type of electric guitar, regardless if it is a lead, rhythm, clean or distorted. My mics of choice are the MD421 and AKG 414.

You also want to mike closer to the center of the speaker as this will give you a more midrangey sound that will cut thru
