In my never-ending quest to improve drum sounds in my recordings, I recently purchased Toontrack's EZDrummer. I also have an old Boss DR-660 drum machine which I would like to use to trigger EZD in real-time. However, I'm completely clueless when it comes to MIDI.

Before anyone says "Read the manual" or "visit Tweaks guide", I assure you I have...multiple times. It just doesn't sink in.

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms how I configure the DR-660 to connect to my M-Audio 2496 in order to trigger EZDrummer?

Mucho gracias!

First of all, I would never tell my worst enemy to 'visit Tweaks guide'. There's wrong information right alongside right information and no way for a casual reader to spot the difference.

EZDrummer is a plugin for all major sequencing applications and has midi files built right in. If you are lacking a VST host, I recommend Reaper --- LINK --- because it has a very easy to understand and use plugin implementation and gives you 30 days to decide if you like it before paying the $40 shareware fee.

EZDrummer is meant to be triggered by the midi files included with the program. If you require it to be triggered from your DR660 hook the midi out of the DR660 to the midi in of your MAudio 2496. Then, if you're using Reaper click the red button under the track number and pull down the input of the track and select 'midi input'. Then go up to the grayed out 'fx' and click on that and load EZDrummer into the track. If nothing shows up, don't panic --- there's a very good help file.
