I purchased a Midiman BiPort 2x4s on eBay and it arrived yesterday. It came with all of the cables nessesary to hook it up properly, I am just having trouble getting the computer to install the drivers correctly and set it up using the Serial port on the computer. I have tried setting up the COM port and the IRQ to match and the ranges for it etc... or at least I think I have. I'm not 100% sure with setting up a device on a serial port. I got into computers at the beginning of USB.

I have it working right now in standalone mode, where it is just the SMPTE I/O (1/4") and the MIDI output A that carries MTC. It seems to be working flawlessly! just a slight delay between the tape and DAW starting but that seems to be normal. However.. I would still like to try and get the rest of this thing hooked up properly to make better use of it. If I had the MIDI interface setup using the serial port I could transfer the 2 inputs and 4 outputs of MIDI plus SMPTE without using up the MIDI input on my Project Mix. I have several MIDI controllers that I would like to get hooked up now that I have an opportunity to for more MIDI I/O.

The NEWEST drivers I found on the M-Audio website were for windows ME in 2002..... haha. Hopefully it will still be compatible since it connects through the old serial port.

I was trying for several hours to figure this thing out. any help would be appreciated :)

only thing I could recomend is to try starting the computer with the device turned on and then goind through the installation steps

Yea I've already tried it several times. I think what I may be doing wrong is setting up the COM port incorrectly because it seems that the IRQ and the range for it have to match up as well? Like I said I have never installed a device that connects via a serial port

Tech support on the M-Audio user forum say that it is incompatible with XP and vista etc. I've had luck with using older drivers before butI guess this isnt the case here. Not a bad SMPTE box though.

sorry to bump an old thread but I found a used one of these and have a question

although this item is incompatible with newer operating systems, can you still use this as a standalone thru-box? I mean connect the midi out from your soundcard, then control 4 devices with the four midi outs.

that can be done right?
