I have yet to get a midi recording into cubase with my Tascam USB 122. What settings need to be change in order to do this. It is as if Cubase doesnt even know there is a device trying to record. Could someone just give a basic desription of what needs to be done in order to record MIDI into cubase and how to play it?? Everything seems to be working properly, my interface is picking up signal and my computer is getting it when I go to the tuner on the control panel. Cubase is just my pain in the a$$ at the moment. Thanks for the help I realize I am quite slow to pick up on this, but I need to figure it out, peace.

You picked a hell-of-a-big program to start recording with dude (I won't ask where you got it, don't worry).

Try Devices -> Device setup and check out all the midi options. Then check the settings in the midi input box on the midi channel.

I am pretty sure I have done that. But the Cubase program came with my interface, the tascam usb-122. I have experience with these types of programs. I actually plan on using Reason. You know any other reasons why the program would not be recording. After I get a midi file recorded. What do I do?? Someone said you have to play it through VTS instruments or something. I am still learning this program but I think it will catch on pretty quick. Thanks alot for the help bro, peace.

If you are actually able to see the midi data as recorded, you have two options:

1) Play it back through a VSTi (virtual synth). You load a virtual synth and select it in your track editor as the midi out.

2) Play it back through a physical synth. To do this, rout the midi data via your track editor to your synth. Then don't forget to rout the outputs of your synth into your soundcard so the sound can be recorded and heard. Many people forget that last step.

Good luck.

I can not see any data. I am in the process of trying to figure that out right now. Thanks for the info.

If your not seeing any midi data, then follow halions suggestions and go to devices and set up your midi device.

Also, I know many people don't like to read, but Cubase's help feature is really good and could probably have you up and running in no time. Well, maybe not "no time", but much less time than waiting around for us to walk you through it.
