MIDI with a Casio Keyboard?

Hi guys, I use a CASIO CTK-710 that I received for free a while back, but I didn't get the manual with it. There is a USB port on the back of it to hook it up to a computer. It says on the front of the keyboard it says it has MIDI capabilities, and my friend hooks his keyboard up to his PC and uses Sony Acid I believe to use it as his MIDI device. So my question is, what program do I need to have so I can use my keyboard as an MIDI device? Or is it even possible?
 
Your Casio has MIDI ability, which means it can send and receive Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) information.

Basically, you need this cable:

One end gets plugged into your USB Type B port on your Casio, and the other into your USB port on your computer.

Now, your Casio can be used as a MIDI controller for whatever MIDI software you wish to buy and use.

If you happen to buy a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), then you can create, edit, and arrange various track sounds in your software, to play the sounds inside your Casio.

Or, if you have a musical synthesizer software, such as Reason, or Fruity Loops, or whatever..., you can use your Casio keyboard to send the note information to play the sounds in your software. This is the reverse of the paragraph before.


So start by getting the correct USB cable, and then buy whatever software you have your heart set on.
 
Alrighty thanks. I have the cable already so that is good to go, but do you know of any freeware that I can use that supports MIDI devices?
 
If it has a usb port, then just hook that up and you should be all set*, nothing else is needed.

*if it is class compliant, no driver is needed otherwise you will need to download the driver from casio
 
What programs are out there to use this MIDI keyboard with?
 
reaper is a good start, KVR audio has loads of free/demo instruments
