MIDI Sync'ing on a 424MkIII???

Hey guys!! I have heard that you can have quite a few tracks over all if you use MIDI Sync. The manual says very, very little about it. I understand you have to have some other outboard gear, but how exactly does this work and what are the possibilities with this? How could I use this? I have a POD 2.0 on it's way here (should be here tomorrow or so). Can I use MIDI Sync'ing with my POD somehow? If anyone could give me some info on this, I would be greatly appreciative. Thanks in advance!!
