I am really a logic user but recently thought it might be a good idea to learn Cubase.

How do i get all of the patch names from my Roland XP30 into cubase so it is easy to use.

Thanks in advance. Mark W

i don't know if i'm answering your question

...but if you go under Device=>Midi Device Manager=>click on Install device a window listing a number of instruments appears but i only see the XP-10 listed i don't know if they have similar patches name or what

hope this help some...

Unfortunately that is one of the weakest things about MIDI in Cubase....they have a very limited device list. If you have a device that isn't listed there are a few things you can check on.

1) Somewhere in Steinbergs website (I'm sorry I don't have a link for ya) they have a section with a few extra device installs that were created by users. If one of those users is using your board, then your in luck.

2) You can try the website for the manufacturer of your synth. Many have created device files for their products for Cubase.

3) You can use a computer program called Dmaker (also on Steiny's website) and create your own custom device manager. This requires a lot of MIDI knowledge and you should prepare for long hours of tears and cursing.

4) If like me, none of the other three options solve your problem, then you just make do with the program not displaying the correct instrument name in the name column. ;)

thanks Bass Master i found the file on the website but what do I do with it. Sorry im really going to have to be spoon-fed.

If your talking about Dmaker, I can't help you there...I abondoned the attempt long before completion.

If you found your synths Midi Device Manager, your a lucky bum ;)and take a peek in the "getting into the details" section of the manual. It should be able to tell you where to upload the file so you have the option to choose it.
