hi,

maybe a very obious question but i'm trying to record drums on channel 10 but i am getting my midi piano and strings effect on the same key press. Can someone tell me how to simply play the selected channel? i have tried solo etc but can't seem to get it unless i turn down the other two inputs (obviously no good when i am trying to record on top of them later). I am running vista, sonar 7, tascam 122l, evolution mk249(2).

thanks

What do you mean you are 'trying to record drums'?

Are you triggering drum hits with your keyboard? A midi set of drums? What?

Sonar's (and many apps) MIDI input is generally set to omni, meaning all MIDI channels. So all channels that have sounds configured are receiving your keyboard's ouput. I've found it easier to control this on my keyboard by limiting what channel I'm playing/sending. Or you can set the input input channel on each MIDI channel in Sonar, but that's a lot of work to do and manage. Can you solo midi channels on your keyboard? My Yamaha has a sequencer mode that I usually use for work with Sonar (because it will receive and play all 16 channels) that will result in the behavior you describe unless I solo the track I want to hear or record.

try making sure that only the track you want to play is highlighted. and make sure that midi echo is off on the other tracks as well.

^^^^(-midi echo is off) + check the output channel is set to 10....

in options > instuments set channel 10 for general midi drums/roland gs drumset/xg/etc (set for your gear).setting this controlls how >>>"bank select method"<<< is used)

^ if set wrong it will default to general midi patches (piano/organ/trumpet/blah/blah)
