I'm looking to buy a midi keyboard. I have no idea where to even start though, there's so many and so many different prices. I wouldn't want to pay over 300 probably and i'd be using it with logic. i just want to use it for drum parts and piano/or synth tracks in my projects. I'd appreciate it a lot if anyone could give me some guidance.

Thanks,
Ryan Steffes

You don't say whether the 300 is dollars, or Euros, or pounds.
My own take, to get something halfway reasonable, is to get something that includes faders (9) knobs (8) and drum pads (8).
The M-audio Axiom is very popular, as is the Novation Impulse. My preference is for the latter, as I prefer the "feel" of the keyboard.
Go for a 49 key version and the price should be right around the 300 Euro position.
Regards,
John.

I've just started getting into VST samplers and synths, and am kindof wanting to get something small and compact to put on front of me on my desk - something like an Akai MPK 25 or MPK 25 mini. They have both the little pads for drumming and small number of keys for dinking around. There are versions w/ more keys too. I think a Korg's MicroKey is also pretty popular based on things I've read also.

I have a larger controller (Studiologic 990 pro), but it is a huge thing and I'm always turning and reaching. I'm increasingly thinking sometimes a small compact unit would be nice for working/editing on these types of things w/ midi.

I have an axiom 61, and it feels a little cheap to be honest. its great, but the keys aren't the greatest and its made of all plastic. I am able to put in keys parts easily into reason, but the pads aren't great for drums, and I use my maschine for that.

So I would look into the Akai Mpk49, as it has MPC pads, or the novation impulse.
