Ok, this might be dumb but...

When I record midi tracks and have them panned that's how they should be recorded, correct. When I get ready to record them as an audio file is that information retained. It seems to drop everything right back in the center. I am able to pan on the audio track, but I find myself having to use the pan pot on my mixer as well. Is this what you guys have to do as well? Or do I have this mixed up?

I thought it was supposed to be retained but have never seen it happen. Also ran into problems with multiple tracks recorded on the same channel (eg midi drums) since you can only do one pan setting for all the tracks together. So now I just convert everything to audio then do the panning, but I only use the pan settings in CWPA, not on the mixer.

The panning Issue!

When you are working on a project, make sure to save it as a work file of some sort, so that all your settings remain in the project. Wen you open your name.wrk file your settings should be exactly where you left it including your panning on the midi tracks. My question is, how are you saving your project, or what music software are you using?

I'm using Sonar and I save my files as .wrk files until I start adding audio then I save as .bun. I am not talking about when I save a project, though. The midi settings just don't seem to translate to audio. Of course, with the audio (after it is recorded) I can adjust the pan settings. I am basically doing things the way malgovert said, "So now I just convert everything to audio then do the panning"... I was just wondering if this is standard for cakewalk...

If your MIDI track is panned, the only way to "capture" the panning when recording it to audio is to record it on a stereo track.

Otherwise you have to apply panning info to the new audio track.

You can always copy the panning envelope alone from the origginal MIDI track and paste it to the audio track, I believe...

I will try that out. That is so tedious. Thanks for the info...
