Midi out device help please

Home studio 2004.

On startup it prompts me to select a Midi out device so I can hear midi files...the only choice that comes up on the selection screen is MS midi mapper and it doesnt seem to recognize this for output. Maybe it has nothing to do with that?

So I go to control panel>sound devices and it shows MS GS wavetable SW synth as the default midi playback device. How come I dont have the option to choose this in Cakewalk?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, thanks
 
The MS GS Wavetable Synth is not a vaild WDM device nor a valid DXi softsynth. You will only see it as an option in HS2004 if you are running it in MME mode or with ASIO drivers.
