Hey all,

I am using Cubase 5 VST/32 to do my recording, and when I import my drum MIDI file, edit it how I need it and set the volume to 127 - it is still really quiet compared to my other (audio) instruments. In fact, I have to move my guitar volume faders in the mixer down to about 1/4 volume to hear the drums at a decent volume.

Any idea how to fix this and make the MIDI as loud as my other instruments?

Cheers,

Jono

You forget to mention is what's your MIDI devices  Internal or external... ?

If it's internal (eg.soundfonts), then you can raise the MIDI playback volume from Windows playback mixer (double click speaker on taskbar, next to clock). If it's external (eg.keyborad), then you you know where the volume knob... :)

If it's an external device, turn it up... ;)

Or you could record it as audio and turn the volume up. (Definentaly not the prefered sollution).

Doh!! It is internal MIDI - on my SB Live.

In terms of the volume control - is it called 'MIDI Volume' or something? I thought I had turned everything up - is it normal to be able to hear MIDI as equally loud as audio tracks?

Yup... See the image below. It could be similiar with this one...

Yes. Is it normal. All you need to concern is the soundfont you attached. Poor quality soundfonts some times sound weak. If you use "GM" kind sound bank, pick at least the 8MB. Chip the preset 2MB away. It wont have anything to do with the volume, but serves you better quality... Just my humble opinion.
