How do I midi my Mpc2000 to sonar so I can use the record button on my computer keyboard to trigger my mpc, or using my mpc to trigger the computer? Can anyone help a playa?

OK, I'll bite - What's an MPC2000? :)

You can assign MIDI notes or keyboard command to most Sonar actions by using OPTIONS - KEY BINDINGS

Q.

A quick search on google showed that an MPC 2000 is a drummachine.

How do I midi my Mpc2000 to sonar so I can use the record button on my computer keyboard to trigger my mpc, or using my mpc to trigger the computer?
What exactly are you trying to do? Syncing them togheter?

Yeah I want to record beats from my mpc to sonar. The problem is that I can't get my keyboard to trigger my mpc.

You'll have to setup the MPC as the SLAVE device.

AND...

You will have to setup SONAR to be the MASTER device.

Thats what I am having a problem doing. (Thanks for putting it is simple terms)

You will also need to connect SONAR and the MPC by using MIDI.

MIDI OUT of your computer to MIDI IN on the MPC.

You will need to set the MPC to receive Midi Time Code [MTC] on the appropriate MIDI IN.

You will need to tell SONAR to transmit MTC. You will also need to tell SONAR which MIDI OUT to send the MTC.

On the MPC...

The MPC sequence can be off any length with Loop OFF and just using the MPC main outputs.

Setup Sync on the MPC:

Press SHIFT+9 (SYNC) on the MPC.
Set your SYNC IN. Set to 1 or 2 (depending on which MIDI IN you are using).

For MODE set Midi Time Code with Frame Rate: 30

Receive MMC does not matter since you are not setting SONAR to send it .

On the right side set Sync Out (Out: B)
Set Send MMC: ON..

In SONAR...

1. You'll need to set the TEMPO

2. You'll need to set up Sonar to transmit MTC.

OPTIONS>PROJECT>SYNC>SEND MIDI TIME CODE>check mark TRANSMIT MTC

I would also.... add two blank bars to the beginning of the sequence on the MPC (this is necessary to give the machines time to lock into the midi time code signal).

Highlight BARS: on the MPC main screen and press open window.
On the left side, set After Bar: 0
Just below, set Number of Bars: 2
Press INSERT.

This should get you up and running. ;)

If you have any other questions, post it in the Hip-Hop Forums (sometimes I don't check this forum daily).

Peace...

I didn't know that you were using Sonar 1.0. I am using Sonar 3.1.1........

I am using Sonar Producers Editon 3.1.1. The setup of MTC MASTER DEVICE should be the same for Sonar 1.0 and Sonar 3.1.1.

wAIT LET ME cHECK.................................................................

OK. You are correct there is a difference.

Sonar 1 doesn't offer Midi Time Code [MTC].

It only offers Midi Sync [MIDI CLOCK] and Midi Machine Control [MMC]

Whereas, Sonar 3 offers ALL three. Midi Clock, MTC, and MMC

Ok. Now that we are armed with this info you should do this....

OPTIONS>PROJECT OPTIONS>MIDI OUT tab>SEND MIDI SYNC>check mark TRANSMIT MIDI START/CONTINUE/STOP/CLOCK

You will also need to tell the MPC to RECEIVE MIDI CLOCK (instead of MTC).

Peace... spin

Post Script. Let me know what is connected to your MIDI In's on the MPC. ;)
