midi mixer for layla/proaudio?

Is there a way to control the layla or pro audio 8 mixers via external mixer using midi?
I've heard of the Peavey Studiomix I could buy a new hard disk recorder for the same price. Too expensive.

If this can be done, what is the best (least expensive) mixer
