"Hi, I'm in Delaware."
I got a MIDI Mate for free the other day and I would like to configure it to work with Amplitube so that I have a nice, silent way of practicing, but without giving up the convenience of stomp switches. So my ideal setup is to run the MIDI Mate in Controller mode and have the bottom row of buttons recall specific presets (like switching channels on an amp) and the top row should switch effects on and off. I've got the top row configured, though by default it seems to switch states backwards (that is, I have to set the Min value in Amplitube to 100% and the Max to 0% so that when the light is on on the floorboard the effect is on), but I cannot for the life of me get the bottom row up and running. In theory I should be able to assign a program change to a specific preset in Amplitube, which is great because that's what the bottom row is supposed to send out, but that doesn't seem to actually do anything. Here is what I am doing:

1) Open the desired preset.
2) Click the MIDI button.
3) Under the "Preset" tab, change the Program Change to the desired value (say, 03 to correspond to button 4 on MIDI Mate).
4) Close window, hit "Save" to save settings.

Then I move to a different preset, hit the button, nothing happens. I also notice that the current preset shows the same Program Change value under the MIDI menu as the one before. And on top of that, if I change it here, it stays at the new value when I go back to the other preset.

I have also downloaded MIDI-ox to check the output of the MIDI Mate and it does seem to be doing what it's supposed to be doing. That is to say, when I hit the top row, it sends out CC. When I hit the bottom row, it fires off the appropriate program change followed by a bunch of control changes (presumably it is resetting the top row of switches, since the numbers correspond to those).

What am I doing wrong here?

You've done everything I would do to make sure the MIDI Mate is working properly, and it sounds like it is.

That leaves Amplitube as the likely culprit for the miscommunication. Have you read the docs for Amplitube including how to have it save Program Change numbers? That would seem to be the problem --- from 10 States away, anyhow!

I have. The user manual doesn't actually say anything about that part and the one YouTube video I found makes it seem like what I was doing (just changing it in the MIDI menu) should work and should save per preset, but mine doesn't do that. I emailed IK to see if they have any ideas, but they take forever and I thought maybe someone here might know...

Ha, so, nevermind. Figured it out. The problem is that when you click the save button it defaults to saving a patch rather than a preset (if you have a patch loaded up, at least), and the program information doesn't save to a patch. So you have to hit save as to save it to a preset, which does save the program change information. Now we are cooking with fire :)

On a side note, do you know if it's possible to have the MIDI Mate NOT reset the top row when I switch patches? I don't think that would be very useful with Amplitube, but I can imagine a situation with real gear where I might want to leave some effects on while switching to a different channel or something. Though I suppose there are other ways of doing that...
