I'm a drummer and learning MIDI. I want to add samples to our existing songs. I'm playing to a click-track, everything's in sync. What is the easiest way to transfer the samples I use to a live environment? I've looked into triggers and the AKAI sampler, but I'm looking for a cost-effective way to go about this

I've messed around with Halion-and soon Gigastudio (getting a Midi keyboard soon) along with a few sample packs, got a strong CPU.

I would definately use a hardware sampler over a computer for live work. You can get triggers for cheap and the older Alesis D4 trigger to midi convertor can be found pretty cheap also. Then you just need a sampler to play the samples. Those also can be found cheap used.

Of course cheap is relative but I'd think you could put something together for $300-500. Are you wanting to trigger loops or just individual hits?

Appreciate the reply

I want to do both and pull from .wav files. What brands/types of hardware samplers are best?

Thanks

You can find a lot of Akai's on the used market. They were pretty much an industry standard throughout the late 80's and early 90's. Emu made a lot of good samplers also.

Just look for a good deal on one with a big harddrive and lots of ram.
