MIDI Latency in SONAR 5

Hi all,

I recently upgraded to Sonar 5, and the audio works great. But I am experiencing annoying MIDI latency...like I play something on my keyboard, and there is a significant pause before I hear it back. So I usually end up using my native keyboard sounds to record the MIDI track in, then just route it through a SoftSynth or whatever. In Reason I just switched to ASIO drivers which fixed this, but I can't fix it in Sonar. Any help is appreciated.

I'm using a Firepod.

Thanks,

Hey,

What do yo have your Buffer size set to in the Mixing Latency category under the Options --> Audio menu option? If you pull it all the way to the left and you still have terrible latency then you probably need to play with your drivers.

Thanks,
Jamie

It's not MIDI latency -- that is, it's not the MIDI messages or the handling of them that are any kind of bottleneck. The issue is audio latency caused by the audio card being asked to response to MIDI messages in real time with audio data. Before the days of ASIO or WDM drivers and VSTi and DXi, you couldn't even do it at all in real time. But with a good card with good drivers, it should be negligible in SONAR.
